Inti Raymi was the main ceremony of the Incas, celebrated in honor of the Sun god; this festivity is held every winter solstice, when the shortest day and the longest night of the year occur. During Inca times, this fact was of fundamental importance as it was the beginning of a new year. On this day, the sovereign and his relatives awaited barefooted the sunrise at the plaza, where representatives and inhabitants of the 4 Suyos came dressed in their best attires.
We will pick you up from your hotel at 07:00 am. so you can enjoy the best Inca festivity in the year. Currently, the ceremony starts in Qoricancha (golden temple) which was a sacred place where they venerated the maximum Inca god: Inti, or sun god, then we will head to the Plaza de Armas, where in Inca times was held the main ceremony and which was the religious and administrative center of the Inca government as well as the main crossroads of the Inca trail. Nowadays, in this point, the Inca addresses his father Sun and the citizens while he throws coca leaves in the wind to predict the future of the empire. Finally, the best of this feast comes when we take a transport to the fortress of Sacsayhuaman, where the main ceremony is held, conducted by the Inca, or son of the sun god, in which a sacrifice is offered, accompanied by colorful dances that come from all the corners of the 4 Suyos. You will have the best sight in comfortable seats, accompanied by the guide, and, this taking place at lunchtime, you will enjoy a box lunch while watching the show.
Once the ceremony is over, we will transfer you to your hotel.
