


Huaraz is a city in north-central highlands of Peru, which is the capital of Ancash Department and the Province of Huaraz. Situated at an altitude of 3,080 m in the central part of the Callejon de Huaylas.

Huaraz is located 407 km north of Lima and is connected with this city by the Pan American Highway north and turn off to Huaraz on a journey of seven hours. The turnoff to Huaraz is located in Paramonga.
Historical Description:
Prehispanic times
In January 1533 the conquerors passed through the area, led by Hernando Pizarro due to Pachacamac, they are the first describing the characteristics of this land, and say it is fertile, with many cattle from the mountains and villages
prosperous.
Colonial Times
In 1538 Francisco Pizarro delivers the parcel of Huaraz to the conquistador Sebastián de Torres, and in 1574 the captain Alonso de Santoyo founded the village with the name of San Sebastian de Huaraz with 14 districts, in this way was assigned command of this military Spanish and serve primarily as a mining settlement.
