


The district of Paucartambo is one of the six districts of the Province of Paucartambo, located in the Department of Cusco, belonging to the Cusco Region, Peru.
History:
Initially Paucartambo (Pawqartampu in Quechua, Tambo colorful), located 110 kilometers from Cusco, Peru, was a supply center for soldiers of the Inca Empire. Subsequently, in colonial times was a commercial center in the area. Today is the capital of the province of Paucartambo.
It is conveniently located in a valley at 2906 meters high, through which the river Paucartambo, and joins the River Qenqomayu. The streets are cobbled and narrow with white houses and balconies in blue.

The recommended season to visit this place is between the months of May, June and July, recommending especially full moon nights and on dates close to the festivities of the Virgen del Carmen is celebrated from 15 to 18 July.
The festivity of the Virgen del Carmen or Carmen Mamacha, as affectionately called by her devotees and locals, deserves special attention when it comes to Paucartambo for it is after the feast of Quyllur Rit'i, the largest in the Andean world.
